Here in Leamington Spa, Invisalign braces are our top choice for those looking to straighten their smiles. A clear and removable aligner – or tray – for your teeth, they’re suitable for teens and adults alike. In this post, our Leamington Spa dentists will talk through how it all works, as well as how to clean and care for them.
So, how do I look after my Invisalign braces?
One of the first things to remember is that they’re made from a clear acrylic. This means that the material can become stained, cracked or damaged if not cared for properly. Not only should you always store your Invisalign in a case when not wearing it, but you’ll also need to avoid eating, drinking and smoking while wearing the braces.
What about cleaning?
It’s easy to clean your adult braces. You can soak them in a denture cleaner or Invisalign’s own crystals, twice a day – but never use harsh chemicals, toothpaste, dishwasher liquid or anything else on them. Never use hot water either, as this can warp the plastic.
When should I clean my Invisalign?
Just as your teeth need cleaning morning and night, so do your Invisalign. You’ll also need to clean both your smile, and your braces, every time you eat. This helps prevent bacteria and food particles building up on your teeth and your braces.
How often should I wear my Invisalign braces?
Your dentist will talk to you about how long to wear them each day, but generally, patients are required to wear them 20-22 hours. This helps the teeth straightening process stay on track. However, if you forget to wear them once, it shouldn’t pose a problem in the long-term. Feel free to talk to us if you’re at all concerned about your treatment.
Can I chew gum with my Invisalign in?
Absolutely not! The gum could get stuck in the plastic, causing discolouration or damage to the braces. A broken Invisalign could also cause damage to the soft tissues inside the mouth. We recommend taking your Invisalign out for everything except drinking water.
