Dermal fillers can be subtle or dramatic, a tweak or a full-on treatment to get you feeling more like ‘you’ again. Whether it’s loss of volume, lines and wrinkles, or shaping and sculpting, dermal filler treatment helps you firm, hydrate, smooth and lift your way to a confident, happy you.
Here at our Leamington Spa dental practice, you may be surprised to learn we can offer facial aesthetics treatments, such as dermal fillers. So, in this post, we’ll talk through the aftercare side of dermal fillers treatment, including ways to manage swelling and key things to avoid.
Our aftercare advice for dermal fillers
Our experts cover 5 areas of aftercare to get you started, whether you’ve already had your dermal fillers or you’re just doing a bit of research.
Make-up – it’s best to avoid make-up for a few hours, to help the skin heal and prevent infection.
Exercise – we recommend waiting at least 24-48 hours after you’ve had dermal fillers before exercising, as strenuous (or sweat-inducing) workouts can risk infection, as well as increasing the chance of bruising. A walk or two is fine, however!
Painkillers – avoid anything which could thin the blood or affect clotting, as this could lead to bleeding, bruising, swelling and redness. Medicines include aspirin and ibuprofen. Your GP can give you advice on safe painkillers, but paracetamol should be fine. Our experts may be able to guide you on suitable pain relief after you’ve had dermal fillers.
Alcohol – it may be tempting to pop open the bubbly to celebrate your new look, but our experts advise to leave the drinks on ice. Alcohol can increase swelling and bruising after dermal fillers.
Heat treatments – from the spa or sauna to the sunbed, heat treatments (and extreme cold treatments) can exacerbate swelling. If you need relief, a cool ice pack held to the area can help soothe and calm swelling (remember, don’t apply ice directly to skin).
This list isn’t exhaustive, and our experts will make sure you have the detailed aftercare you need to keep your skin comfortable and your results optimised after you’ve had dermal fillers treatment.
